✨ BUILDHER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Wakeelah Peace, Founder of Psykee Journaling Company

At Fynergy Inc., we honor women who are creating solutions rooted in lived experience and cultural healing. Today’s BuildHER Business Pitch Competition spotlight introduces you to Wakeelah Peace, founder of Psykee Journaling Company—a brand dedicated to prioritizing the Black mental health experience and breaking the stigma surrounding it, one journal at a time.

🖊️ About the Founder

Wakeelah Peace is the proud owner of Psykee Journaling Company. Her journey began when she identified the importance of creating a safe space for Black mental health while working to break the stigma that often silences these critical conversations. Through Psykee, Wakeelah is holding space for healing, self-expression, and community care.

📝 About the Business

Business Name: Psykee LLC. (Psykee Journaling Company)
Stage: Recently Launched (Under 1 Year)

Business Description:
Established in November 2023, Psykee Journaling Company was created to acknowledge and prioritize the Black mental health experience. The company began with a book, a pen, and a story that went unwritten. Inspired by her personal mental health journey, Wakeelah found that journaling offered her a safe and intimate space for reflection. Today, Psykee offers handmade, original journals designed to support the Black community in telling their stories while helping to dismantle the stigma around mental health.

💡 What Problem Does Psykee Solve?

Psykee Journaling Company directly addresses the silence and stigma surrounding mental health in the African American community. These conversations are often viewed as taboo, and as a result, many individuals lack the tools or safe spaces to reflect and heal.

Psykee’s mission is to normalize and introduce mental health awareness within the Black community—encouraging personal growth, acknowledgment of generational trauma, and the rewriting of harmful narratives. Each journal becomes more than a product—it’s a place for the oldest daughter, the single parent, the first-generation college grad, or someone simply existing as a Black person to feel seen and supported.

🎯 Vision for Growth

Wakeelah is currently focused on the following goals for Psykee:

  • Gaining a steady and consistent customer base

  • Strengthening her social media and email marketing strategy to increase visibility

  • Continuing to craft meaningful products that reflect her mission

🎁 What She’d Do With the Grant

If awarded BuildHER grant funding, Wakeelah plans to:

  • Produce additional stationery products that promote mental health awareness, including affirmation calendars, pens, and notepads

  • Outsource production of her personalized journals to cut down the time it takes to make each handmade product

  • Relaunch an official Psykee website to support business growth and product visibility

🚧 The Challenges She’s Overcome

Wakeelah’s biggest challenge as a female entrepreneur has been finding a supportive community. She believes women are stronger together, but without access to a collective of fellow entrepreneurs, she feels limited in knowledge and opportunity.

“Not having a supportive community of women entrepreneurs limits my knowledge and minimizes my opportunities to grow in the community and throughout my entrepreneurial journey.”

As a new business owner, she is eager to learn from experienced women who are farther along in their journey—and to grow through shared wisdom and connection.

💬 Why She Joined BuildHER

“I want to participate in the BuildHER Business Pitch Contest simply to reach an audience who is in need of mental relief.”

Wakeelah sees this pitch opportunity as both a platform and a learning experience. She hopes to connect with individuals seeking support in their mental health journey and to increase awareness about Psykee’s mission to create safe, healing spaces for the Black community through journaling.
